To go on a trip to Leh Ladakh on a bike, it used to take months of planning, budgeting and then finally getting the bike to a location like Delhi from where the adventure begins. Its a lot of fun prepping for the final ride. But if you just want get started on the trip and not spend time on the preparations, try RideIndia, a startup which wants to promote motorcycle tourism.
On RideIndia, businesses can list their two wheelers for rent in their locations. Whoever is looking to rent one, can use the platform to connect with a person who has listed on the site. The site is not only for motorcycle rentals. The company will soon add new categories such as touring gear like a DSLR camera, adventure Sports camera (like Go Pro) and protective gear like jackets and helmets.
“Motorcycle tourism is getting popular in India,” says Ravi Mevcha, one of the co-founders of the one month old company. But the rental market is very fragmented and it becomes time consuming and painful to rent bikes and accessories, he says. Moreover, you don’t always want to buy all the accessories.
In a months time, the site has managed to get 54 bikes listed for rentals in 8 cities.
The portal does not own any of the bikes but is only a marketplace..people who list the bikes for rent have to keep the documents and the bike in good condition, added Ravi.
RideIndia will soon start taking online booking for clients who want to pre-book a ride so that it fits nicely into the travel itenary. “We also plan to earn revenues through sources like owning and renting niche biking equipment, and promoting sponsored services and biking tours on our website,” said Ravi.
Initially, they plan to target the unorganised segment of the business in tourist centers like Goa, New-Delhi, Manali etc.
What are their future plans? To enhance website features to start accepting bookings on behalf of fleet owners, introduce Services related to motorcycle touring to the marketplace (e.g. guided tours of leh-ladakh, itinerary planning and bookings and similar services provided by 3rd party) and to introduce equipment (for rent and/or purchase) necessary for biking tours like Saddle Bags, Mounted Cameras and other accessories.
